Common Questions

Everything We Get Asked

Five groups, straight from the questions that actually land in the inbox — booking and sessions, the design itself, your finished board, keeping it alive season to season, and getting it to your door. Jump to whichever one is yours.

Booking & sessions

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Design sessions are booked ahead — the room and the artist's time are yours alone for 2–3 hours, so we can't fit walk-ins around that. The shop floor itself is walk-in any time we're open, and quick questions about sizing or an existing board never need a booking.

How far in advance should I book?

In peak season (October–April) slots fill 3–5 weeks out — we only run four sessions a week on purpose. Over summer you can often get in within a week, which is exactly why we push the pre-season booking discount then.

What if I need to reschedule?

Free, with 5 or more days' notice — just email or message us and we'll move your slot. Inside 5 days the deposit stays put, since prep time has already gone into your date.

What happens if I don't show up?

The deposit is forfeited — it was paying for the artist's afternoon, and that afternoon is now gone. We'll always try to reach you first if something looks off, but a genuine no-show isn't refunded.

Can I bring a friend to watch?

Yes — the bench area fits two or three comfortably. Just mention it when you book so we know how many chairs to set out.

Design & artwork

What if I don't like where the design is going, mid-session?

Say so immediately — that's the entire point of drawing it live instead of emailing a mockup back and forth. The artist redraws or shifts direction on the spot, at no extra charge, for as long as your session runs.

Can I bring my own reference art or a photo?

Absolutely, and most people do. One thing to know: you're responsible for having the right to use whatever you bring — a photo you took yourself is fine, someone else's copyrighted illustration or a stock photo you don't own isn't something we can legally put on your board.

Will you copy another artist's design exactly?

No. We won't trace or reproduce another artist's signed work — bring it as inspiration or a starting point, not a template, and we'll draw you something that's actually yours.

Can I keep the original sketch?

The working sketch stays at the bench as a build reference, but we photograph it and send it over once your board ships — worth keeping next to the finished thing.

Do you reuse designs on other boards?

Never. One board, one drawing — even if a future customer asks for 'the one from your Instagram,' we'll draw them their own instead.

Your board

Why isn't my board ready the same day?

The resin needs to cure fully before we can safely trim the edges, grind the base, and tune it — trying to finish it same-day is how boards delaminate by January. Structure is always: session (2–3h) → curing and finishing (3–5 days) → pickup or ship.

How do I know what length and width to get?

Weight is the main driver, not height — we fit you against a size chart and your actual boots during the session, not from a form you fill in beforehand. See the sizing table on the Session page for a rough starting point.

What's the difference between camber, rocker, and hybrid?

Camber arcs up between your feet for a springy, locked-in carve. Rocker arcs the opposite way for a loose, forgiving ride. Hybrid blends the two — camber underfoot, rocker at the tips — and is the profile most riders leave with if they only own one board.

What insert pattern do you use?

4×4 as standard, with 2×4 or Burton's Channel available on request — bring your current bindings to the session and we'll match the pattern exactly so nothing needs re-drilling later.

Is my board covered by any kind of warranty?

Two years against manufacturing defects — delamination, edge lift, a core issue that wasn't caused by an impact. It doesn't cover rock strikes, rail damage, or the normal wear any board picks up from actually being ridden.

Care & waxing

How often do I need to wax it?

Roughly every 3–5 days of actual riding — more often early and late season, when the snow is drier and more abrasive on the base. If the base looks grey or feels slow, it needs it sooner.

Can I wax it myself?

Yes — hot wax with an iron is the standard method and there are plenty of guides for it. Or drop it at the shop; we'll show you the whole process during pickup so you're not guessing at home.

What about the edges?

Keep them sharp everywhere except the contact points if you ride a lot of park — a slight detune there stops unwanted hooking on rails and boxes. File off any rust the moment you see it, before it spreads.

How do I store it over the off-season?

Leave the wax on — don't scrape it off before storing. Loosen your bindings, keep it somewhere dry and out of direct sun, and away from radiators or anything that'll bake the topsheet.

Will the artwork fade or wear off?

It's sealed under the same clear topcoat as the rest of the board, so it wears the same way — a little duller after years of hard riding, but it won't peel or lift like a vinyl wrap would.

Shipping & returns

Do you ship boards nationwide, or is it just merch?

We ship boards across the US in a padded, reinforced board box — it's oversize freight, so it costs more and takes a little longer than a t-shirt. You'll get an exact quote and timeline before you pay anything.

Can I return a custom board?

No — it's built to your spec, in a session with you, so once the design is set it's final sale under our store policy, same as any made-to-order goods. We tell you this before you order, not after.

What if there is a defect when it arrives?

The no-returns policy is about changing your mind, not about us shipping you something faulty. If there's a genuine manufacturing defect, contact us and we'll assess it and repair or rebuild, warranty terms aside.

Is there any grace window at all?

Yes — 48 hours from pickup or delivery to flag anything wrong, fit issues included, even though the board itself can't be returned for a change of heart after that.

What about returning merch — tees, hoodies, that kind of thing?

Standard 30-day return on unworn stock merch with tags on. That policy is separate from custom boards, which follow the made-to-order rules above.
